HYDERABAD: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an impact-based forecast for Hyderabad city and its surrounding areas, warning of significant weather disturbances on Saturday and Sunday.

The forecast predicted generally cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rain or thundershowers, accompanied by gusty winds ranging from 30-40 kph. Surface winds were expected to come from the North-Westerlies or Westerlies, with speeds of 8-12 kph.

The IMD warned that heavy rains were likely to cause water pooling on roads, particularly in low-lying areas across the city. This could lead to widespread traffic congestion, with many roads becoming wet and slippery. Additionally, there was a risk of trees and electric poles falling, which could result in temporary disruptions to electricity, water, and other essential services. Drainage systems might also experience clogging, exacerbating the situation.

In response to the expected conditions, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) issued an advisory urging residents to exercise extreme caution to ensure their safety and well-being. The GHMC recommended keeping children indoors, avoiding waterlogged streets as pedestrians, and advising two-wheelers to steer clear of flooded roads. In case of emergencies, residents were advised to contact the toll-free numbers 040-21111111 or 9000113667 (Disaster Response Force).

Citizens have been advised to stay updated on weather conditions and follow official instructions to ensure their safety during this period.
