IMD issues 'yellow warning' for thunderstorms for next five days in Telangana

HYDERABAD: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'yellow warning' for thunderstorms for the next five days in Telangana.

According to the IMD, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 KMPH) are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Telangana from May 15 to May 19, 2024.

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are expected at isolated places for the next two days. Thereafter, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are expected at a few places on day three across the state. Maximum temperatures are expected to range from 39° to 42°, while minimum temperatures are expected to range from 25° to 28° for the next three days in the state.

Dry weather is expected until May 16. Thereafter, light rain/thundershowers are expected at isolated places for the next two days in the GHMC area. Maximum temperatures are expected to range from 37° to 39°, while minimum temperatures are expected to range from 25° to 27° until May 18, 2024.

The highest maximum temperature recorded in the state was 42.9°C at Jaina (Jagtial) on May 15, 2024. The state's daily maximum average temperature is 39.1°C, compared to the normal of 40.4°C.

The highest maximum temperature of 40.0°C was recorded at Barkas ESS Chandrayan Gutta (Hyderabad) on Wednesday in the GHMC area. The GHMC daily maximum average temperature is 38.3°C, compared to the normal of 39.5°C.

According to the Telangana Weatherman, there continues to be a super respite from heat in Telangana, with more respite expected in the upcoming days in South and Central Telangana during May 16-19, peaking on May 17-18. Hyderabad can expect moderate rains during that time.

"Temperatures are expected to drop to 35°C during that time. On May 15, there will be only isolated to scattered rains, similar to today. A fresh spell of heat is expected after May 20, but it won't be as severe as what we saw during the first week of May, " said Telangana Weatherman T Balaji.

May 16 (Yellow): Thunderstorm accompanied with Lightning and gusty winds (40-50 KMPH) very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts KomaramBheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajigiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal of Telangana.
