ADILABAD: A meeting called by the Congress party to inculcate a sense of togetherness and brotherhood among backward classes instead turned out to set a stage for power play in Adilabad on Monday.
Senior party leader and former Member of Parliament V Hanumantha Rao, who was witness to the madness, left the venue in a huff without uttering a single word. The meeting was attended by two senior district-level leaders Sajid Khan and NRI Kandi Srinivas Reddy along with their cadre.
Sources said that Sajid who was a senior in the district party and was unhappy with the entry of Srinivas Reddy and nurtured a grudge against him. The two groups resorted to slogan shouting and fist fights in front of Hanumantha Rao.
The senior BC leader’s efforts to bring in a compromise between the warring groups failed as both groups were determined to outwit the other. The infight subsided only after an apparently embarrassed Hanumantha Rao walked out of the meeting.
Later the DCC president Sajid Khan suspended Kandi Srinivas Reddy for antiparty actvitity.
