International Women’s Day: KTR asks Municipal Dept to host week-long festivities

HYDERABAD: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao (KTR) on Sunday asked the officials of the Municipal Department to hold week-long celebrations in all towns of Telangana from March 8, 2023, marking the International Women’s Day. The Minister’s call is aimed at celebrating women's power and achievements and honouring their contributions to society.
As per the Minister’s directions, the Municipal Department’s officials announced various programmes that will be organized throughout the week to celebrate the role of women. The celebrations will be held involving women public representatives, staff from the Municipal Department, Self-Help Group (SHG) members, sanitation workers, members from various NGOs who play a key role in the initiatives of the Municipal Department.
Referring to the celebrations, KTR said that sports events, cultural programmes and health camps for women would be organized while women, who excelled in various fields, and aspiring entrepreneurs would be honored. The Minister asked the officials to identify and felicitate municipal staff and women from towns adopting exemplary practices in fields of municipal work such as dry compost, kitchen composting and water conservation.
KTR also asked the officials to recognise women who have achieved self-sufficiency in doing business with government loans and subsidies, right from street traders to entrepreneurs. The Minister suggested that officials hold exhibition and sales camps of products made by women SHGs in towns.
As part of the week-long programmes, Kanti Velugu camps will also be organized for women employees in the Municipal Department. To increase awareness levels, meetings will be conducted on safety and health of women and their empowerment. Besides these, KTR also directed officials to distribute interest-free loans to women during the week.
The Minister also directed the Municipal officials to invite distinguished women officials – district collectors, senior police officials, judges, senior officials, heads of the departments – as chief guests for the programmes. KTR exhorted the officials to make the week-long celebrations marking the International Women's Day a grand success.
