HYDERABAD: When it comes to breaking away from the conventional practice of election campaigns, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K T Rama Rao essentially stands out in the crowd.

While addressing roadshows and public meetings continue to remain the mainstay, KTR has always chosen novel ways to appeal to people to vote for his party. This approach naturally has been a runaway hit with the young adult voters. He has never confined his campaigns to the traditional methods, yet he consistently participates in the time-tested models which carry the message straight into electors.

This time around in the run-up for Lok Sabha elections, KTR, a most popular personality on the social media platform “X” with 43 lakh-odd followers, is taking to it at regular intervals to introduce the BRS candidates. He is unveiling the personalities of each of the contestants in a manner in which their virtues and service-orientation are highlighted. He also takes the opportunity to explain to people, almost with a great detail, as to why should the people vote for the BRS and its nominee.

It is not a blanket appeal to vote for the BRS based on its avowed principles and agenda, but the individual caliber of the contestants is invariable highlighted in the tweets. He discusses their qualifications, their ideology, how is it in sync with the BRS party’s agenda.

KTR makes it a point that, especially in an election happening to choose the representatives to voice the concerns of people at the national level, to explain why the opponents should not be supported. For instance, while introducing party nominee Ragidi Lakshma Reddy from Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency, he began talking about why should the people not vote for the BJP. The Uppal-Narapally flyover whose construction is getting protracted for several years. He made sure to tell the people that this Lok Sabha constituency was the largest in India.

In an oblique attack on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who had represented this constituency in the erstwhile Lok Sabha, KTR said that Reddy had ignored its development and never addressed the needs of the constituents.

Thus, he briefly, yet clearly, explained why should the people not vote for the Congress. He also laid emphasis on why should the people give their mandate to the BRS by listing out the achievements of his party while in power in the State for a whole decade. KTR is making specific pointers on the service rendered by the party to that particular constituency.

Then comes the social service orientation of the individual contestant. He very briefly talks about the power-hunger of the BRS rivals in the particular constituency and then goes on to wind up the tweet with a earnest appeal to vote for the BRS.

First, he had introduced BRS candidate from Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha seat R S Praveen Kumar, a former IPS officer, recalling his qualifications and the service he had rendered to the State in his capacity as a bureaucrat. Then as a leader with utmost commitment to the downtrodden sections of the society.

KTR introduced senior leader B Vinod Kumar is contesting from Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat in the same manner. He has been covering all the candidates without exception.

He recently did a “Raw Talks” podcast with podcaster Vamshi Kurapati. He had done an interview – “unfiletered” – by Samdish for the 2023 Assembly polls. His gestures and body language become an instant with millions of viewers.

KTR also had done a talk show with Gorati Venakanna in front of the Telangana Martyr’s Memorial during the Assembly elections of 2023. He walked into a farm field and participated in cooking with popular youtuber Gangavva and explained the policies and programmes of the BRS meant for the poor.

He organises numerous interactive sessions with elite, startups, business persons, IT employees, and of course, the traditional TV interviews. KTR even gives voice messages with an appeal to vote that is delivered through social media platforms and mobile phones.

This surely provides a whiff of fresh air from the run-of-the-mill political speeches replete with spewing venom against the opponents, leaving the people high and dry.

After all, variety, they say, is spice of life and KTR truly adapts himself to this maxim and lives up to it. The elan with which he fields questions, be it in Engish or Telugu or Hindi/Urdu surely enthralls the audience, besides providing them with loads of information on why they should prefer the BRS to the others.
