HYDERABAD: Telangana IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) announced on Friday that IT exports in Telangana had increased by 31.4 percent in 2022-23, according to data by Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) and NASSCOM.

Replying to questions by members on IT exports during the Assembly session on Friday, KTR said that over 6 lakh IT jobs were generated in Telangana after its inception and several IT companies had established their largest campus with world class facilities in Hyderabad. "Hyderabad is now at the top position in IT jobs in the country, leaving Bengaluru behind. Around 44 percent of the technology-based jobs generated in the country are from Telangana," KTR said.

Expressing his dismay over the opposition parties, KTR said, “It has become a routine affair for them to mudsling against the BRS Government and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), who is relentlessly striving for the holistic development of Telangana without giving any scope for religious-hatred and caste based issues in the State.”

The Minister added that communal forces were destroying the IT industry in Gurgaon and violence in Manipur. Compared to the IT progress in the country, the IT progress in Telangana registered four-fold growth during the BRS Government, KTR said. He recalled that the first IT tower in Hyderabad was established in Begumpet in 1987.

From then to 2014, IT exports in 27 years stood at Rs 56,000 crores. A surge of Rs 57,706 crores in the fiscal year 2022-23 had been recorded in the IT sector, which was the highest annual rise since the formation of the State, the IT minister said. “Attracting industrial investments is key for the holistic development of cities and towns in Telangana. Steps are also being taken to expand the IT to tier II cities in the State with world class facilities to generate employment for the youth,” KTR said.

KTR also said that efforts were being taken to expand IT to other parts of the city. As part of it, an IT tower would be constructed in Malakpet and Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) would be entered with the leading IT companies to generate employment opportunities for the youth, the IT minister said.
