HYDERABAD: Ever since Telangana was formed, the agriculture and power sectors in the state witnessed a sea-change in terms of improvement, thanks to the visionary approach by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). KCR paid special attention to the problem of electricity and ensured electricity within six months of the formation of the state and made quality nine hours electricity available to the farmers.

The Telangana government headed by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has started implementing a 24-hour free electricity scheme for the agriculture sector from January 1, 2018, providing free electricity supply to 26.96 lakh agricultural electricity consumers.

The state has faced severe difficulties with only three hours of electricity supply in the morning and the night before the formation of Telangana statehood. But the Telangana government led by KCR has provided Rs. 36.890 crores as subsidy to the agriculture sector to provide free electricity to the farmers. The government has spent Rs. 37,099 crores for strengthening supply and distribution systems and providing quality electricity to all consumers in the state.

The KCR government is credited with establishing 17 400 kV substations, 48 200 kV substations, 72 132 kV substations, 137 EHT substations, 11107 CKM of EHT line, 33/11 kV substation in association with TRANSCO and providing free electricity to farmers along with free power supply to SC, ST, Nai Brahmins, laundry shops, poultry units up to a consumption of 101 units per month.

It is noted that Telangana state has become number one in the country in the consumption of electricity which has gone up from 1110 units in 2014 to 2102 units in 2021 while solar power, which was at 73 MW in 2014, has reached 4950 MW.
