KTR blames Telangana Govt for increasing suicides, urges action on weavers' suicides on May Day
KTR alleged that the Revanth Reddy government implemented these free services without providing alternative livelihood options
HYDERABAD: Former Telangana minister and BRS working president, KT Rama Rao, said on Wednesday that Revanth Reddy compelled weavers to commit suicide by halting government orders (GOs) within four months of assuming power.
While paying homage to workers on May Day, KTR criticised the current Telangana Government, attributing the suicides of approximately 50 auto-rickshaw drivers to the implementation of free bus services for women. He alleged that the Revanth Reddy government implemented these free services without providing alternative livelihood options.
Pledging to launch a movement against the government, particularly on behalf of the working class, including weavers and auto-rickshaw drivers, KTR recalled the KCR government's support for migrant workers during the COVID-19 lockdown, contrasting it with how the BRS regime treated them as partners in the state's development. He slammed Narendra Modi's response to the pandemic, particularly towards migrant workers.
KTR condemned the Narendra Modi government for forgiving corporate loans worth Rs. 14.5 lakh crore, benefiting the Adanis and Ambanis, while refusing to waive off crop loans worth Rs. 1.5 lakh crore, which would benefit millions of farmers. He challenged Telangana BJP leaders Bandi Sanjay and Kishan Reddy to resign as MLAs if proven wrong.
He argued that the Centre favored corporates, burdening ordinary citizens with a Rs. 30 lakh crore cess on fuel prices. KTR suggested that the corporate loans waived off by the BJP could have provided free power supply to farmers for a decade.
KTR slammed the Modi government for imposing GST on beedis and textiles, which placed a significant burden on beedi workers and weavers nationwide. He warned that if the BJP were to come into power, it would privatise the public sector. He emphasised the importance of voting for the BRS to prevent the diversion of Godavari river water and thwart attempts to make Hyderabad a union territory.
