KTR inaugurates cable-stayed bridge in Karimnagar

KARIMNAGAR: Telangana Minister for Municipal Administration KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Wednesday inaugurated the much-awaited cable-stayed bridge constructed at a cost of Rs 224 crore, across the River Manair in the downstream of Lower Manair Dam on the outskirts of the city.

KTR also laid a foundation stone for the digital library in the district library building and inaugurated an integrated command control room and citizen service centre developed in the Karimnagar municipal corporation office.

Speaking on the occasion, he underscored the need for community participation for maintaining cleanliness and providing better facilities for the people in the city.

KTR observed that Karimnagar had witnessed a lot of development in the last nine years after the formation of Telangana. Around Rs 700 crore worth of development works were being expeditiously completed in the city. Of which Rs 480 crore was being spent on the development of the Manair river front. Works were expected to be completed in the next three to four months and will be made accessible to the public, he said.

Apart from focusing on development activities, it was essential for the people’s representatives to address the basic grievances of the people, such as drinking water, sanitation, installation of street lights, putting an end to stray animals, menace and mosquitos. Citing an example of the efforts being made by the BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar to provide 24x7 drinking water supply in the city, KTR said that earlier people protested about drinking water supply during the Congress regime.

After the formation of Telangana, the government was accorded top priority in addressing the grievances of the people. He also cited that several cities across the country were facing drinking water problems. But the situation was quite different in Telangana, thanks to the reforms brought by the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

The municipal minister commended the efforts of Kamalakar for expediting works at a brisk pace in providing 24x7 drinking water supply in three wards of the city by September. He suggested to the municipal corporation officials to focus on generating urea from the wet waste and generate Rs 7 to 8 crore per annum. The State Government had sanctioned Rs 79 crore for the implementation of the ‘Swachh Badi’ concept.

The main objective of the programme was to educate schoolchildren about the ill/effects of the use of single-use plastics. He asked Karimnagar mayor Sunil Rao to implement the programme in all the schools across the city. MLC P Kaushik Reddy, Telangana State Planning Commission vice chairman B Vinod Kumar, MLC Rasamayi Balakishan and other people's representatives were also present.
