HYDERABAD: Telangana Municipal and Urban Development minister K Taraka Rama Rao on Wednesday came hard at the central government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for hiking the LPG gas cylinder prices by a huge margin and called upon the party cadres to get ready for protests.

The minister held a teleconference with Bharat Rashtra Samithi ministers, MLAs, MLCs, and District Presidents.

Addressing the leaders, KTR said that it had become a habit for the centre to hike the prices of one or the other essential goods after the elections in the states were over. He stated that the domestic cylinder price had been hiked by Rs 50 and the commercial cylinder price by Rs 350 and jibed at the centre asking whether it was Modi's gift to the women ahead of International Women's Day.

The BRS working president called upon the leaders for organising large-scale protests in their respective constituencies against the central government for increasing prices of LPG Gas Cylinder demanding rollback of prices.

Recalling the price of an LPG cylinder, which was Rs 400 before the advent of Modi government, had gone up to Rs 1,200 causing difficulties for the poor. KTR slammed the Centre for deceiving the people in the name of the Ujjwala scheme and appealed to the BRS party ranks to ensure the central government's anti-people policies were taken into public.

KTR demanded that the central government not raise the cylinder prices arbitrarily and immediately reduce the increased prices
