HYDERABAD: BRS Working President K Taraka Rama Rao has criticised the police for filing a case against journalist Gautham Goud, who posted a video of a farmer expressing frustration with the Congress government.

KTR questioned the Telangana DGP on Twitter, asking, "What is wrong with this video? Why was a case filed against journalist Gautham Goud?"

The controversy arose after Gautham Goud uploaded a video featuring Mallayya, a farmer from Mushampalli village in Nalgonda district. In the video, Mallayya criticised the Congress government for its failure to provide adequate irrigation, 24-hour electricity, and timely Rythu Bandhu payments, which had caused severe hardships for farmers. Mallayya expressed regret over voting for Congress leader Revanth Reddy and voiced his support for the return of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).

KTR, who visited the village and personally met with the farmer, further challenged the authorities, asking, “I also spoke with farmer Mallayya. Will a case be filed against me as well?”

The video, intended to showcase the plight of farmers under the Congress regime, led to police action against the journalist. The incident has sparked debate on freedom of speech and the government's response to farmers' grievances in Telangana.
