HYDERABAD: Telangana Minister and TRS Working President Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) never misses an opportunity to run down the Narendra Modi government at the Centre and its short-sighted measures. His penchant for using Twitter to fire his salvos at Modi and Co is well-known.

In a latest tweet on Wednesday, KTR took on the Prime Minister once again, over the Gujarat government's remission order to facilitate the release of 11 persons convicted for rape and murder in the Bilkis Bano case.

KTR referred to Modi's August-15 speech where he exhorted the nation to respect women. He said that if the Prime Minister really meant what he said, then he should ensure that the Gujarat government rescinded its remission order in favour of the 11 convicts.

"Dear PM @narendra Modi ji, If you had really meant what you spoke about Respecting women, urge you to intervene & rescind the Gujarat Govt remission order releasing 11 rapists (folded hands emoji).

Sir, it is nauseating to put it mildly & against MHA order. Need you to show sagacity to the Nation."

He also further said in a retweet, "Sir, I also urge you to make necessary amendments to the Indian Penal Code (IPC) & The Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC) suitably so that no Rapist can get a bail through judiciary.

"Strong legislations are the only way to ensure Judiciary can deliver swiftly & perform at its best", was how his tweet read.

Incidentally, the Gujarat Government's remission decision also drew sharp criticism from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Gandhi said that the entire country was seeing the contrast between Narendra Modi's 'words and deeds' as the convicts were released hours after the top BJP leader spoke about 'Naari Shakti' or women power during his Independence Day speech.

Bilkis Bano was gang-raped and seven of her family members including her young daughter were killed in the Gujarat riots in 2002, fuelled by the Godhra train fire incident. The victim was just 21-years-old and five months pregnant when the atrocity was perpetrated on her. Eleven of the accused in the case walked free from Godhra Sub-Jail on August 15 following the Gujarat Government's order which was reportedly based on its old remission policy.
