HYDERABAD: The Telangana Government has officially passed an order offering discounts for commuters to clear their pending traffic challans.
The Government Order, passed by Transport, Roads & Buildings Department on Tuesday stated that the traffic challans could be cleared on the e-challan website from December 26 to January 10, 2024.
The Government has decided to waive off the fine amount of 80 per cent for two-wheeler vehicles, 90 per cent for TSRTC buses and 60 per cent for light motor vehicles/heavy motor vehicles through e-Challans.
Stating the reasons for issuing the discount, the Director General of Police (DGP) in the order said, "In recent years, e-Challan pendency is in huge numbers and due to Covid-19 pandemic many of the vehicle owners have not paid e-challans. Many of vehicles like two wheelers, three wheelers are not able to pay above pending fines as these amounts are more than the cost of the vehicle. Hence, it is proposed to clear the huge pendency of traffic e- Challans by adopting specific criteria to clear the pending challans."
