ALAMPUR: BRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) has said that many people died in 'Indiramma Rajyam'(reign of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi) and it was 'Akali Rajyam' (reign of hunger) in the State then.

"Until Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao started Rs 2 per kilo of rice for the poor scheme, people experienced hardships," said KCR and termed the Congress leaders 'selfish' who pushed the State into poverty.

Speaking at a public meeting in Alampur on Sunday, KCR told people that they would be safe only if the BRS was voted to power in the upcoming polls so that welfare schemes wouldn't be paused in the State.

Recalling his discussion with Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy, a politician and founder of Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samithi for separate Statehood for Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh, KCR said, "Byreddy Rajashekar Reddy in an interview asserted that if KCR stops water flowing from Rajaolibanda Diversion Scheme (an irrigation project located across River Tungabhadra in Jogulamba Gadwal district of Telangana), then Byreddy will use bombs to blast the project. I told him that inturn I will blast Sunkesula Barrage if Byreddy Rajashekar Reddy does that. People of Mahabubnagar were happy with my statement."

KCR told the public that, "No one spoke about pending projects - Nettempadu, Kalwakurthy and Bhima. You reside beside Tunghabhadra and Krishna rivers but still you didn't get water. Did the Congress Government ever think of giving drinking water to the people? But our BRS Government gave tap connections to each and every household."

The Chief Minister concluded that the development that took place in the past 10 years would go to vain if the Congress came to power.
