Nizamsagar canal embankment breaches, inundates journalists colony in Armoor

ARMOOR: The embankment of the Nizamsagar Canal breached in Armoor town during the wee hours of Monday inundated several areas including the journalists' colony.

With water gushing into their homes and uprooting electric poles, residents of the colony had no other option than to spend the rest of the night outside their homes. The residents complained that the bund of the Nizamsagar man canal lacked maintenance for a long time resulting in a major breach.

They said the irrigation officials should have cleaned the canal before releasing water to irrigation canals. However, the irrigation officials released the water without clearing the canals of debris accumulated over a year resulting in the breach of the Nizamsagar canal embankment. The water was meant for drinking water and irrigation purposes.
