Rain wreaks havoc: 13 killed, 7 of them due to wall collapse in Bachupally, Hyderabad

Seven people including a four-year-old boy died when a wall of an under-construction building in Renuka Yellamma colony collapsed due to the record-breaking heavy rains that lashed the city on Tuesday night.

HYDERABAD: Seven people including a four-year-old boy died when a wall of an under-construction building in Renuka Yellamma colony collapsed due to the record-breaking heavy rains that lashed the city on Tuesday night.

The deceased were identified as migrant labourers from Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy who reviewed the situation after the devastating rains and gusty winds uprooted electricity poles and trees in many parts of the State, expressed sorrow over the death of the workers in the wall collapse incident in Hyderabad.

He urged the officials concerned to initiate action on the people responsible for the tragic incident. He also sought immediate medical attention for the four other workers who were injured in the incident. The Chief Minister also called upon the Congress cadre to take part in the relief and rescue operations along with the officials. He urged the GHMC, Transco, and Police Departments to coordinate operations and directed them to concentrate on rescue and relief operations in low-lying areas inundated by rainwater.

The Chief Minister who was in Warangal took stock of the situation from there. He spoke to GHMC commissioner Ronald Rose, City Police Commssioner K Srinivas Reddy, and Transco CMD SAM Rizvi. The CM wanted the restoration of the power supply in the areas where power lines were damaged

Six killed in separate incidents

Meanwhile, four people died in separate incidents in different parts of the State, and two unidentified bodies were found in the Begumpet drain due to the heavy rains that battered the State on Tuesday.

While a fruit vendor was electrocuted in Bahadurpura in Hyderabad, a young farmer was killed in a lightning strike in Kukunurpalli mandal of Siddipet district. Two others died in a wall collapse incident at Railapur village in Medak district. In another incident, two unidentified bodies were found in the Begumpet Nala on Wednesday morning.

On the other hand, grain in several market yards and procurement points was washed away in the heavy rain. Paddy in Jogipet, Masaipet market yards got drenched in the rain. Farmers were devasted because of the sudden rain that left no time to save their grain kept in the open without any waterproof covers. Mango plantations in and around Sangareddy were eth worst affected.
