Relief from heat: IMD predicts 5 days of moderate rains in Telangana, AP from Monday

HYDERABAD: In what could be great relief for the people of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh experiencing severe heat wave conditions for the last one week, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast five days of largely cloudy weather with intermittent and scattered rains.

According to the IMD, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are very likely to occur at isolated places in a few districts of Telangana. Severe thunderstorms are expected in Mulugu, Kothagudem, Khammam, Komarambhim Nirmal and Bhupalpally districts. There is a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at some places in Mahabubabad, Warangal, Nalgonda and Suryapet districts on Sunday.

An Orange alert has been announced for these districts and the IMD is predicting that there was a possibility of hailstorms in some districts on Monday. The sky will be partly cloudy and there are chances of light to moderate rain or thundershowers during evening or night. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 39 degrees and 27 degrees celsius respectively. Surface winds are likely to blow from the west at a speed of 6 to 10 km per hour.

Taking to Twitter, T Balaji, popularly known as Telangana Weatherman, said that scattered storms would resume from Sunday, mainly in South and East Telangana while severe heat wave conditions would continue even on Sunday in several parts of the state. Similar weather conditions will prevail for the next three days. A weak monsoon onset is expected in Telangana from June 20 and 21, 2023, in the South and Eastern parts of the State and it is likely to reach the northern part by June 23. The state will have active rain only after June 24 and 25.

Meanwhile, IMD Andhra Pradesh predicted favorable conditions for the expansion of the southwest monsoon in the state between June 18, 2023, to June 21, 2023. From Monday, many places in Tirupati, Sri Sathya Sai, Annamayya, Tirupati, YSR and Chittoor districts will experience light to moderate rains. Heavy rains are likely in some places and there will be rain with thunder and lightning in some places in the coastal Andhra region.

Taking to Twitter, Sai Kiran, who tweets with the moniker of ‘Vizag Weatherman’, said that the southwest monsoon was likely to cover more parts of Andhra Pradesh, especially in the RayaIaseema region and Nellore and Prakasam districts on Sunday, initially with moderate to heavy rains for the next two days in a few areas. The monsoon will cover the remaining parts of the state in the next four days. The weathermen termed it as a monsoon week for both the Telugu states.
