Revanth Reddy announces unique transgender-focused recruitment program to ease traffic
The initiative aims to recruit transgender personnel to assist the Hyderabad traffic police.
HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy proposed engaging transgender volunteers to help regulate traffic in Hyderabad, suggesting they could be employed on the same lines as Home Guards.
He claimed that the programme would be India's first government recruitment and welfare program specifically for the transgender community. The program is set to address social inclusion while also providing support to the Hyderabad traffic police.
This initiative simultaneously addresses two significant issues - transgender unemployment and urban traffic management. The Telangana government plans to identify, recruit, and train transgender individuals for traffic management roles.
Hyderabad has the least traffic problems among India's big five cities. Recruiting transgender troops to assist the city's traffic police is expected to enhance traffic control measures further, helping Hyderabad become a model city for traffic management.
