HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy accused the previous BRS regime of not being serious enough to eradicate drug menace in the State.

"The K Chandrashekar Rao Government was completely negligent in the investigation of drugs case. I am not sure why the investigation was stalled. The police didn't even seize digital evidence during its investigation. Under BRS rule, Telangana became like Punjab which was suffering from this menace.

"However the Congress Government is serious about fighting the drug menace. There will be no tolerance against people, however powerful, who would bring drugs from across the borders of the State into Telangana.

Responding to Revanth's comments, BRS MLA KT Rama Rao (KTR) said, "The Congress is talking about eradication of drug menace but it was KCR who established Telangana State Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TS-NAB) and appointed the then Hyderabad Commissioner CV Anand as its head.

"The Chief Minister spoke about drug menace in Punjab. I would like to remind that it was the Congress Government in Punjab that was because of drugs. Why would we set up Anti-Narcotics Bureau and give the responsibility to an officer like CV Anand?" KTR said.

Responding to KTR, Revanth Reddy said, "TS NAB was established only on paper. When the bureau asked the Government for 300 personnel to crackdown on drugs, not even a single rupee was allocated. The Congress Government is ready to spend any amount for personnel and vehicles. The Government will not engage in politics in matters like drugs."
