HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy laid the foundation stone for the Hare Krishna Heritage Tower in Hyderabad on Sunday, marking a significant moment in the city's history.

The tower, which will stand at a height of 430 feet, is set to become a symbol of spiritual teachings amidst the urban landscape, and a new pride for Telangana.

In his speech, Revanth Reddy expressed his gratitude for being part of such a momentous occasion, describing it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He emphasised that the heritage tower would offer spiritual guidance in the "concrete jungle" of the city and announced that construction is expected to be completed within 36 to 40 months. The Chief Minister also committed to inaugurating the new building once it is finished.

Reflecting on Hyderabad's past, Revanth Reddy noted that the Nizam rulers developed the city as a "Lake City" a hundred years ago. He raised concerns about the pollution of lakes and ponds, particularly Gandipet and Himayat Sagar, which have historically provided drinking water to millions. He criticised the discharge of wastewater from luxurious farmhouses into these vital water bodies and emphasised the responsibility of elected public representatives to protect the environment.

Revanth Reddy drew inspiration from Lord Krishna's teachings to Arjuna in the Kurukshetra battle, declaring that his government would fight against the encroachment of lakes with the same determination. He assured that the government's efforts to protect lakes through the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) initiative are not politically motivated but are aimed at ensuring a better future for the coming generations. The Chief Minister vowed not to succumb to pressure and promised stringent action against those encroaching on public lands.

He assured that the government would provide all necessary support to this noble cause.
