HYDERABAD: Unruffled by the internecine squabbles within the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), its chief Revanth Reddy is gearing up to embark on a padayatra across the state from January 26, 2023. The date and Muhurtham for the Congress version of ground-running for the 2023 elections were fixed at an extended meeting of the TPCC Executive Committee held at the Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday.

As per details given by Revanth Reddy himself at the Sunday meeting, the ambitious foot march was christened 'Yatra'. The logo and poster for the same were also unveiled during the meeting. Contrary to earlier reports which suggested that the foot march could be named as 'Sakala Janula Sangharshana Yatra', the TPCC chief appeared to have decided to be frugal even with words and hence decided on its generic name itself. It is believed that a bit of thought also went into choosing the name as it takes the very name of the biopic that was filmed on former chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh late YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

YSR, even till today, is remembered for his excruciating walkathon across the length and breadth of Andhra Pradesh which brought the Congress back into power in the undivided state. Revanth Reddy, choosing the name of the biopic for his initiative is reportedly meant to strike the right chords with all the YSR admirers in Telangana, especially in the wake of a padayatra already taken up by the late leader's daughter YS Sharmila. The YSRTP founder has so far covered over 3,500 km before her foot march came to an abrupt end amid police curbs.

As per the details revealed by Revanth Reddy during a day of stormy political developments, the 'Yatra', after beginning on January 26, 2023, will wind through all the districts of Telangana. It has been designed in such a way that it culminates on June 2, coinciding with the Telangana Formation Day. The Yatra is primarily meant to activate the Congress rank and file across the state and gear them up for the elections which, as per current indications, are expected to take place between November and December next year.

Revanth Reddy and the Congress high command reportedly intend to accomplish the yatra task well in advance by June before chalking out the strategies for the all-crucial polls.
