HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has announced that his Government will honour the promise of ₹2-lakh farm loan waiver by August 15, 2024.

“We will clear all farm loans up to ₹2 lakh at one go. We will also give a bonus of ₹500 on every quintal of paddy from the next agricultural season,” Revanth said at a public meeting in Narayanpet.

The Chief Minister also alleged that the BRS and the BJP had joined hands to defeat the Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha election and that former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was working to ensure that the BJP could win five Lok Sabha seats.

Reacting sharply to the promise made by Revanth Reddy, BRS leader and Siddipet MLA Harish Rao said that the promise to implement the loan waiver before August 15 was only to deceive people to get votes in the upcoming elections.

Taking to X (former Twitter), Harish Rao said, "Revanth Reddy's promise to waive the loan by August 15 is only to garner votes. He should apologise to farmers for breaking his promise to waive the loan by December 9 last year. Revanth made this statement because he was afraid of the fight put up by the BRS."
