Sharmila, Vijayamma to contest in Telangana elections

HYDERABAD: Putting an end to the speculation of the merger of YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) with the Congress, YS Sharmila on Wednesday declared that the party would contest 100 seats out of the 119 on its own in the ensuing elections in Telangana.

While Sharmila would contest from Paleru and Miryalaguda assembly constituencies, her mother YS Vijayamma would contest from Secunderabad Assembly constituency.

YS Sharmila who had founded YSRTP on July 8, 2021 on the birth anniversary of her father YS Rajasekhar Reddy, set a deadline of September 30 for the Congress party to finalise the merger.

However fearing a backlash from the anti-Seemandhra forces in Telangana, the Congress dilly dallied her admission into the party. Her insistence on the Paleru seat also troubled the Congress mandarins who were already in a mess accommodating Tummala Nageswara Rao who migrated to Congress from the BRS.
