Singareni boss orders faster tender process for new 800 MW thermal power plant

HYDERABAD: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) Chairman and MD N Sridhar has directed the officials concerned to complete the tender process for the construction of another 800 MW thermal power plant. The new plant is to be built by SCCL under the directives of the Telangana government and the works for the same are expected to begin from March, 2023.

The Chairman conducted a special review with the officials of the Singareni thermal and solar power departments at Singareni Bhavan in Hyderabad. Director D Satyanarayana Rao, along with senior officials of the departments concerned, participated in the meeting.

It is known that, on the instructions of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), SCCL invited tenders in November this year for the construction of another 800 MW supercritical thermal plant at an estimated cost of Rs 6,800 crores. The Chairman, during the review meeting, directed the officials to ensure that the process was completed as soon as possible and start the action plan in January before embarking on the construction works.

As per information available, the new plant will be set up on the premises of the 1200 MW plant at Jaipur in Mancherial district. As the coal transportation and water facilities of the existing plant can be used for the new plant, the cost of its construction will be reduced since providing amenities will not be an issue.

Chairman N Sridhar, who reviewed the construction of the third phase of solar plants, directed the officials that the 15-megawatt floating solar plants under construction in the water reservoir of Singareni Thermal Power Station should be started by next March. The first 5-MW floating plant should be started by the end of this month, he said. He also asserted that the construction of the third phase of the remaining 66 MW solar plants. These include 22 MW solar plants being constructed for the first time on top of the open cast 1 overburden dump in Ramagundam 3 area, 11 MW plants in Chennur area and 33 MW plants in Kothagudem. Setting a timeframe, the Chairman told the officials that these works should be completed by June next year.

Sridhar also asked the officials to complete the construction works for the flue gas desulphurization unit, to be built at the Singareni thermal plant at a cost of Rs 700 crore as an environmental friendly measure.

Director (E&M) D Satyanarayana Rao and other officials expressed their happiness at the fact that Singareni Thermal Power Station had recently stood at the No.1 position in the country with the highest plant load factor.

Chief Technical Consultant Sanjay Kumar Sur, Chief of O&M JN Singh, STPP General Manager DVSN Raju, GM (Solar), S Janakiram, Chief of Power Shri NVK Viswanatha Raju, AGM (Civil) KSN Prasad, AGM (Finance) Sudhakar and other officials participated in the review meeting.
