Smita Sabharwal strikes again, suggests people would be forced to take to arms
This is not the first time Smitha Sabharwal has openly criticised the judiciary for failing to deliver justice to women in this country
HYDERABAD: Smita Sabharwal, a Telangana IAS officer and the Chief Minister's Secretary, yet again came down heavily on the judiciary after the Madhya Pradesh High Court suspended the sentence given to a gang rape prisoner due to the duration of custody.
Smita Sabharwal, who called the Madhya Pradesh court's decision "shameful," tweeted, "If the current trend of judicial let-downs continue, it may be time to allow women of this country the right to bear arms. Justice and Law cannot be two different things".
The IAS officer was also shocked after the Supreme Court acquitted three accused of kidnapping and brutally murdering a 19-year-old girl in Delhi's Chhawla area on Monday.
Smita Sabharwal demonstrated tremendous courage and strength by openly criticising the judiciary and suggesting that people would take to arms, as it is unusual for bureaucrats to comment on public platforms.
This is not the first time Smitha Sabharwal has openly criticised the judiciary for failing to deliver justice to women in this country. She expressed shock and disbelief at the release of the Bilkis Bano rapists in August 2022.
She had earlier tweeted while demanding justice for Bilkis Bano, "As a woman and a civil servant I sit in disbelief, on reading the news on the Bilkis Bano Case. We cannot snuff out her Right to breathe free without fear, again and call ourselves a free nation."
Twitteratti praised the Telangana IAS officer and thanked her for bringing attention to this heinous crime through her social media platforms. Tweeple stated that India needed IAS officers like her to work for the betterment of women in the society.
