Student unions hold protest near Union Minister Kishan Reddy's residence over NEET controversy
Student unions demanded NEET cancellation, a SC judge probe into irregularities, a fresh exam, and a government apology.
HYDERABAD: A large number of youth and student union leaders besieged the residence of Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, demanding the cancellation of the NEET exam following allegations of paper leakage and irregularities.
Leaders from various student unions, including NSUI, SFI, AISF, PDSU, PYC, DYFI, AIYF, PYL, VJS, and YJS, gathered in protest on Saturday.
The protesters demanded a meeting with Kishan Reddy to discuss their concerns about the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the NEET exam. They were reportedly upset by the minister's failure to grant an appointment, leading to the demonstration at his house. Police eventually intervened and moved the protestors to Nallakunta Police Station.
Speaking to media persons at the police station, Congress MLC Balmoor Venkat demanded that the NEET exam be cancelled and a fresh exam be held to ensure fairness for all students. He also called for an inquiry into the paper leakage by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court.
"We also demand an apology from the central government to the 24 lakh students and their parents affected by this issue," Venkat demanded.
He further highlighted that over 60,000 students from the Telugu states were among the 24 lakh students nationwide who took the NEET exam and deserved justice. He assured them that their struggle would continue until the NEET exam was cancelled and re-conducted.
