Telangana Assembly Budget sessions to begin in first week of February, size likely to be Rs 3 lakh Cr

HYDERABAD: Telangana Assembly is likely to hold its annual budget sessions from February 3.

After a successful Khammam public meeting of the BRS, the budget sessions are likely to commence on February 3, setting aside the tradition of conducting the sessions in the first week of March.

KCR, after converting the Telangana Rashtra Samithi into the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, has drawn up the agenda for completing the State’s administrative work effectively before diving into national politics. The budget sessions will commence a few days after the Union Budget on February 1.

Various departments have already planned their budget proposals and sent them for scrutiny.

Finance Minister T Harish Rao, who was busy with the arrangements of the Khammam BRS meeting, is also now working on budget estimates for 2023-24.

KCR is likely to conduct a review of the budget on Saturday. Sources said that the Telangana Budget 2023-24 would be increased to Rs. 3 lakh crore against last year's Rs. 2.85 lakh crore.

The sources indicated that this year too major allocation would go to irrigation to the tune of Rs.37,000 crore. The BRS Government’s flagship project, Kamleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, is said to be given priority.

Since this is the last budget for the current term of KCR Government, welfare schemes are likely to take the lion’s share, keeping in view the elections to the Assembly this year.

KCR is likely to use the budget sessions to respond to the vilification campaign unleashed by the opposition parties and clarify the position of the government on various policy initiatives.
