HYDERABAD: The Election Commission of India did not permit the Telangana state cabinet meeting this afternoon, so it could not be held.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and the ministers waited for the Election Commission's permission until Saturday evening, but there was no response.

Due to the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections and the upcoming polling for the by-elections to MLC seat of Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduate constituency on May 27, the model code of conduct is in force in the state. Consequently, the Election Commission did not respond to the state government's request to hold a cabinet meeting to review the situation in the state.

Most of the ministers, except for the Chief Minister, arrived at the Secretariat this afternoon and waited for the Election Commission's permission until 7 PM. With no response, it was decided to hold the cabinet meeting after 7 PM. The ministers left the Secretariat, except for the Chief Minister.

Some ministers stated that they would continue to wait until Monday for the Election Commission's permission. If there was still no response, some ministers planned to visit Delhi to meet with the Central Election Commissioner and request permission to hold the cabinet meeting. They say the meeting is necessary to discuss several important issues, including the waiver of agricultural loans, paddy procurement, planning for the Kharif season, and the destruction of crops due to unseasonal rains.
