Telangana govt. procures 10 lakh MT more grains than last year: Gangula Kamalakar

HYDERABAD: Telangana State Civil Supplies Minister and Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar on Saturday said the process of procurement of grains harvested in the recently-ended monsoon season was going on smoothly and the government collected 10 lakh metric tonnes more, compared to the last year till the same day.

The Minister, who held a high-level review with the Commissioner of Civil Supplies and other officials at the minister's quarters, said that 38.06 lakh Metric Tonnes were collected from 6,42,000 farmers till Friday through 6,734 procurement centres in the state. According to the minister, out of a total of 38.06 LMT of grains collected, 36.87 LMTs of grains worth Rs. 7,837 crores were sent to the mills paying Rs. 4,780 crore to the farmers.

Lauding the Chief Minister KCR's agriculture policy and supply of abundant water to the agriculture sector, the minister said that the quality of grain had increased and Telangana had become the major food source for the country. He said that the arrangements were made to speed up the collection of the grains in December as the harvesting was continuing.

Minister Gangula Kamalakar further stated that the officials had utilised 9.52 lakh gunny bags and assured that 9.16 lakh more would be made ready to avoid any disturbance for the collection of grains. He said that the process of collection of grains was completed in 729 centres. Civil Supplies Commissioner V. Anil Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Rukmini, and other officials participated in the review meeting.
