HYDERABAD: As the elections are nearing, the Telangana State on Saturday rolled out an increment of Rs.1,000 to differently-abled persons making it Rs.4,016 from Rs.3,016.

The State Government enhanced Aasara pension amount which is being provided as financial security to the differently-abled persons. The government issued orders by increasing the pension amount by Rs 1,000. With this, each beneficiary would get a pension amount of Rs 4,016 every month. At present, the differently abled are receiving Rs 3,016 pension.

KCR kept his promise of the enhancement of pension amount for the handicapped, as announced at Mancherial public meeting.

A CMO release said the Telangana government had been striving for the welfare of the differently-abled like no other state in the country. Telangana stood as a role model for other states by providing the highest 'asara pension amount to the needy in the country.

Diet charges in Gurukulams hiked

The government enhanced diet charges of students of Gurukulams to provide quality food and the best facilities in the hostels. The increased diet charges will come into effect from July this year.

The diet charges of students studying from 3 to 7th standard increased to Rs 1,200 from Rs 950 per month.

The current monthly diet charges for students studying from 8th to 10th standard is hiked to Rs.1,400 from Rs.1,100.

The government enhanced diet charges for the students studying from class 11 to PG to Rs 1,875 from the present Rs.1,500 per month.

The Chief Minister said that about 7.50 lakh students studying in Tribal Welfare, SC welfare, BC Welfare Gurukulams and other Gurukulams run by the state Education department would benefit from the increase of diet charges. The government increased the diet charge by 26 per cent In addition to the existing charges. The enhancement of the diet charges would put an additional burden of Rs 237.24 crore on the state exchequer every year.

KCR made it clear that the state government was working for the welfare of students in spite of the additional burden on the state exchequer. The state government was already providing quality education and food with fine rice to the students in the hostels. He said that the government took the decision to increase the diet charges to provide better food facilities to the students.

KCR had appointed a sub-committee of ministers to recommend the increase of student diet charges recently. After conducting a study, it submitted the report to the Chief Minister.

Based on the recommendations made in the report, the state government increased the diet charges.

State Tribal Welfare, Women and Child Welfare Minister Satyavati Rathod thanked the Chief Minister for the gesture.
