HYDERABAD: Telangana High Court on Friday declared the election of BRS MLC Dande Vittal as null and void. It levied a penalty of Rs. 50,000 on him.

Dande Vittal was elected to the local area constituency (LAC) as an aMLC in 2022. Congress caniddate Sathireddy Rajeshwar contested his election in the court alleging that Vittal had submitted withdrawal of nomination on his (Rajeshwar's) behalf. He had appealed to the High Court tat Vittal's election was illegal and his membership in the Legislative Council be cancelled.

The High Court took up the case and ruled that the election was illegal. The court also levied a penalty of Rs.50,000 to him. This came as a shocker to the BRS which had tasted defeat in the recent Assembly elections.

However, Vittal may go in for an appeal on the verdict to a higher bench.
