Telangana High Court postpones Singareni elections to December 27
The High Court directed the SCCL management to prepare the voters list before November 30
HYDERABAD: In view of Assembly elections in the State, the Telangana High Court on Wednesday postponed the elections for recognised trade union in Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) to December 27, 2023. The High Court pronounced its judgment after considering an appeal made by the SCCL.
The High Court directed the SCCL management to prepare the voters list before November 30. Also, the High Court ordered the Telangana Government to give its consent by Thursday regarding their support to the SCCL for the smooth conduct of the elections.
Initially, the central labour department made arrangements for the elections for the recognised trade union in SCCL scheduled to be held on October 28. However, the SCCL approached the High Court to postpone the elections until the completion of Assembly elections in the State.
So far, the elections in SCCL had been postponed thrice. On June 30, the Telangana High Court directed the SCCL management to conduct the elections. The SCCL management challenged the judgment given by the single bench at the division bench of the High Court.
The SCCL management requested the High Court to issue directions to conduct the elections after the Assembly elections as all the officials would be involved in the poll-related duties. Singareni was spread over six districts in Telangana and the SCCL management also brought the matter of Maoist influence in three districts to the attention of the High Court.
