Telangana hits hottest day at 44.8°C; heatwave warning for next three days

HYDERABAD: Telangana recorded its hottest day of the year at 44.8°C on Wednesday, according to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS).

The highest maximum temperature was recorded in Nalgonda at 44.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Bhadadri at 44.7 degrees, Jagtial at 44.6 degrees, Rajanna Sircilla and Mahabubabad districts at 44.5 degrees, and Mulugu and Karimnagar at 44.2 degrees on April 17, 2024.

The state's maximum average temperature for the day is 41.2°C, compared to the normal of 39.3°C, while the GHMC's maximum average temperature is 40.8°C, against the normal of 38.6°C, according to TSDPS.

The highest maximum temperature of 41.6°C was recorded at Tolichowki Dalith Bhavan in Hyderabad on April 17, 2024. The city also witnessed scattered spells of rain in JNTU, HITEC city, Madhapur, Gachibowli, Tolichowki, Shaikpet, Kismatpur, Rajendranagar, and Shamshabad.

Telangana Weatherman T Balaji said, "Telangana records the hottest day of this year at 44.8°C. Over the next two days, temperatures may further cross the 45°C benchmark, with some scattered thunderstorms likely. Scattered spells of rain were witnessed in JNTU, Hitech City, Madhapur, and further moved across Gachibowli, Tolichowki, Shaikpet, Kismatpur, Rajendranagar, and Shamshabad. Some respite finally for Hyderabadis after enduring 42°C heat.

"Extreme heat-induced storms ignited across Kamareddy, Siddipet, Yadadri, and parts of Sircilla, slowly moving down and likely to cover parts of Medchal. Hyderabad, mainly Bachupally, Kompally, Jeedimetla, Quthbullapur, Alwal, Bollaram, and Kowkoor, can expect brisk showers after 9.3 p.m," he added.

Day 1 (April 17): (YELLOW) Heat wave conditions likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Mancherial, Peddapally, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Suryapet, Mahabubabad districts of Telangana.

Day 2 (April 18): (YELLOW) Heat wave conditions likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapally, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad districts of Telangana.

Day 3 (April 19): (YELLOW) Heat wave conditions likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Adilabad, KomaramBheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Karimnagar, Peddapally, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Suryapet, Mahabubabad districts of Telangana.

Day 4 (April 20): (YELLOW) Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) very likely to occur at isolated places in Mancherial, Nizamabad, Jagityal, Karimnagar, Peddapally, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Siddipet, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy districts of Telangana.

Day 5 (April 21): (YELLOW) Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) very likely to occur at isolated places in Mancherial, Jagityal, Rajanna Sirsilla, Karimnagar, Peddapally, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Janagaon, Siddipet districts of Telangana.
