Telangana records 63.94% voter turnout, Hyderabad fares poorly with 40.69% till 5 pm in Assembly polls

HYDERABAD: Telangana recorded a voter turnout of 63.94 per cent till 5 pm in the 2023 Assembly polls for 119 seats, according to the Election Commission of India.

The highest voter turnout was recorded in Jangaon with 83.34 per cent, followed by Narsampet (83 per cent), Nakrekal (82.34 per cent), Bhongir (81 per cent), Palakurthi (81 per cent), Zaheerabad (79.8 per cent), Narsapur (78.89 per cent), Dornakal (79.32 per cent), and Wyra (79.20 per cent).

Other areas that too reported a decent turnout included Warangal West with 51.34 per cent, followed by Medchal (54.62 per cent), Karimnagar (64.17 per cent), and Warangal East (64 per cent).

Capital Hyderabad yet again fared poorly among all districts with a overall voter turnout of just 40.69 per cent until 5 PM.

The highest voter turnout was recorded in Secunderabad Cantonment (47.14 per cent), followed by Khairatabad (45.5 per cent), Goshamahal (45.79 per cent), Sanath Nagar (45.1 per cent), and Secunderabad (45.01 per cent).

The lowest voter turnout in Hyderabad was recorded in Yakutpura (27.89 per cent), Nampally (32 per cent), Charminar (34 per cent), Malakpet (36.9 per cent), Bahadurpura (39.11 per cent), and Chandrayangutta (39 per cent).

Polling was held in a total of 35,655 polling stations, out of which 10,969 stations were identified as critical. The highest number of critical polling stations were identified in the districts of Wanaparthy, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Jogulamba Gadwal, Medak, Nalgonda, and select parts of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The Election Commission of India (ECI) had ordered the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in all critical polling stations to ensure maximum security.
