NIRMAL: Even before the state went to polls, opposition began communal tensions in peaceful Telangana. On Tuesday activists belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pelted stones and attacked the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) workers in Nirmal town.

BRS councilor and former municipal vice chairperson Shiek Sajid Khan along with his cadre reached the YSR colony to take part in the election campaign, Tuesday being the last day. However, the BJP workers who were already present there in the campaign of party candidate Maheshwar Reddy objected to their entry and started shouting slogans.

The BRS activists also started raising slogans. In no time there was pelting of stones and the situation got out of hand with both the groups fighting with sticks. The police arrived at the scene, dispersed both sides and restricted the clash from becoming a communal fight.
