SURYAPET: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) President and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) has said that Thungathurthy which was ravaged by Left-wing extremism and was utterly neglected during the Congress regime, is now recovering under the BRS Government's rule.

Addressing the ‘Praja Ashirvada Sabha’ at Thungathurthy in Suryapet district on Sunday, KCR said that the constituency faced drought and people migrated to other parts before the formation of Telangana. "If anyone spoke about the Telangana movement, they were kept in jail and considered them as Naxalites. After the BRS Government came to power, efforts were made to bring Godavari water to Thungathurthy through the construction of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) which addressed the drinking and irrigation needs of the region," he said.

The BRS Supremo said that there was still a need to bring water from Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme for seven to eight villages in Tirumalagiri mandal. Works in this regard were progressing at different stages and water would be supplied at the earliest, he added. KCR said that through the Punadhigan canal, Mothkur and Addagudur mandals were yet to receive water which would be achieved after widening it. Apart from that, Baswapur reservoir project near Bhuvanagiri would be interlinked to Punadhigan canal under KLIP to supply abundant water for two lakh acres of land in the constituency, he shared.

In the next four to five months, around 4,000 MW of power would be generated and the project would become a jewel in India’s crown, he said, and added that around 27 Girijan Thandas in the constituency were upgraded to gram panchayats.

KCR appealed to the people of Thungathurthy to re-elect BRS candidate G Kishore Kumar with one lakh majority and assured them that he would implement the Dalit Bandhu Scheme for the entire constituency, apart from upgrading the 100-bed hospital and enhancing the pension for kidney patients to Rs 5,000 in a phased manner.
