TSRTC MD urges women to take ‘Palle Velugu’ buses for shorter distances
The TSRTC management had noticed that more number of women were travelling shorter distances in express buses causing severe inconvenience to other passengers
HYDERABAD: Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) managing director VC Sajjanar on Saturday said that the management had noticed that more number of women were travelling shorter distances in express buses causing severe inconvenience to other passengers.
In a video statement released here, Sajjanar appealed to the women passengers traveling short distances to board the Palle Velugu buses and cooperate with the staff. The management noticed that a section of women were also mounting pressure on the staff to stop the buses in the middle instead of the stages allowed, leading to the increase in travel time, he said.
Sajjanar said that henceforth express buses would be stopped only at the permitted stages. He asked the staff to give priority to the passengers from distant areas. Women, children and transgenders should extend their cooperation for the proper implementation of the Maha Lakshmi scheme, he added.
The Telangana Government launched the Maha Lakshmi scheme on December 9 and it was evoking a good response from the women passengers across the State. On an average, 30 lakh women were commuting every day, making up 62 per cent of the total passengers. The Occupancy Ratio (OR) of the organisation had increased significantly, from 69 per cent to 88 per cent, due to the scheme, the TSRTC officials said.
