HYDERABAD: It looks like the stage is set for YSRTP president YS Sharmila to merge her party with the Congress. According to sources, Sharmila would meet Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi tonight at Taj Krishna here on Saturday, which is the venue for the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meetings.

Sharmila had met Sonia and Rahul Gandhi in Delhi last month to discuss about the merger but the deal wasn't finalised as many issues needed to be addressed. Sharmila apparently wants to represent Telangana but Congress wants her to play a major role in the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh where the party is down on its knees and Sharmila's brother and Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is on a stronger footing.

While Sharmila had apparently put forth a proposal to contest from the Palair constituency in Khammam district as an MLA for the upcoming Assembly polls in Telangana, she faces a challenge as BRS leader Tummala Nageswara Rao too is likely to join the Congress party on Saturday. He had also made his intentions clear on contesting from Palair constituency.

To iron out any differences, Congress sources shared that Sharma could likely be nominated as a star campaigner for Telangana elections and be offered a Rajya Sabha seat. It will be interesting to see if Sharmila would accept the offer.
