Andhra farmer grows Miyazaki mango, sells at Rs. 2.70 lakh a kg

AMARAVATI: A farmer from Pithapuram constituency in Kakinada District is growing some of the world's rarest and most expensive variety of mangoes.

The Farmer, Oduri Nageswara Rao, and his son Kishore, hailing from Chebrolu village of Gollaprolu mandal, are cultivating the world's most expensive mango variety, the Miyazaki mango, on four acres. Indeed, the King of Fruit as mango is called. Nageswara Rao said that he fetched the seed of Miyazaki from Japan.

During the mango season, the fruit is sold for about Rs 300 to Rs 400 per kg. However, having very high nutritious value and weighing about 300-400 gm, the Miyazaki mangoes are rated at Rs 2.70 lakhs per kg in the international market.

Apart from the Japanese Miyazaki variety, the father and son have been growing seed-less mangoes, apple mangoes, banana mangoes and also wax apples (white jamun fruits). Nageswara Rao and his son aim at growing mango varieties from all over the world in their farm.

They said that they would like to sell these luxurious fruits only to those who can afford them. Well interestingly, the only people who can afford these mangoes are the rich and the influential.
