HYDERABAD: Avinash Mohanty assumed charge as Cyberabad Commissioner of Police here on Wednesday. He announced that cybercrime, economic offences, and traffic would be among his important priorities.

The 2005-batch officer was the Joint Commissioner of Police of Cyberabad. Mohanty replaced his boss, Stephen Raveendra. Speaking to media, Mohanty said, “Cyberabad commissionerate is one of the most important in the State which is housing several industries and companies with a huge population. People from various parts will reach their offices here. My aim is to provide a safe and secure environment for everyone.”

The Commissioner said that as a police their responsibility would be to uphold the rule of law and ensure transparency in solving the problems of the people. Be it resources whether man power, vehicles or material resources all would be fully deployed in a proper manner. Another major problem haunting Cyberabad was traffic. “We will deploy enough manpower and take the suggestions from various agencies to work on traffic issues,” he said.

Avinash Mohanty said that strict vigil would also be kept on all kinds of illegal activities in Cyberabad and would work to ensure strong enforcement. Informing the measures to be taken to eradicate drugs in Cyberabad, he said, “We will identify the root of the problem to prevent the drug supply and their channels. We will intensify our activities and seek the support of neighbouring Hyderabad and Rachakonda Commissioners to eradicate drugs.”

On permissions for New Year celebrations, the Commissioner said that permission would be given to the restaurants and pubs only if they strictly adhere to the guidelines released by the police. Apart from that the police would intensify their vigil during the New Year celebrations to prevent untoward incidents from happening, he added.
