Closure of Kumari aunty’s eatery near ITC Kohenur by Cyberabad police triggers tweet war between YSRC-TDP

HYDERABAD: In an interesting development over politics of business and business of politics, the YSR Congress has come out in the open against Congress Government in Telangana led by A Revanth Reddy. The trigger: closure of a food truck near ITC Kohenur in Madhapur.

The party took to X and commented that Kumari, whose small roadside kiosk was shut down by Cyberabad police citing traffic congestion, was targeted by the government for telling a YouTube channel that she was benefitted by a weaker section house given by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

The YSR Congress further said that the “adopted son and dad” (obliquely referring to Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan) incited the government that worked under their beck and call against the poor woman just because she had claimed that she was benefitted by the house given by “Jagananna”. This incident was enough to suggest that “you were scared even if you see Jagananna fan.”

This triggered a war of tweets between the YSR Congress supporters and d the followers of the Telugu Desam Party and Jana Sena.

The Cyberabad traffic police on Tuesday made Sai Kumari, popular as ‘Kumari aunty’, popular on Instagram, to shut down her tiffin business for a week.

Frequent complaints by road-users about traffic congestion on the road adjacent to ITC Kohenur in HITEC city, opposite InOrbit Mall was cited as the reason by traffic police for asking her to close down.

As part of clearing the traffic to create an eas carriageway, the roadside eatery was asked to find a different place to run the business.

While the police inspector told her that they were doing their duty and they could not let the traffic congestion to continue, Kumari questioned why only she was singled out when the other businesses were allowed to run, including a wine shop/bar. She said that she ran her business only for two hours in the night, maximum up to 1 am.

“I have been running this business for 13 years now. There was no traffic congestion complaint so far. I became famous because of media. Now I request the media to support me. All others are doing business here throughout the day and there are no restrictions on anyone. I bring food for only 400-500 people. Do you find all 500 people here. Public come to all establishments here. Why are the police singling out my business. I have always told customers that public should not sit freer because of us and please make sure there is no hindrance too traffic. But today my livelihood was taken off. How do I survive without business,”she argued with media people. She said several IT employees and wage-earners patronise her eatery.

The police, however, suggested to Kumari aunty to find an alternative place with the help of the GHMC staff to continue the business.
