Coal production halted in Singareni amid floods

HYDERABAD: The rains in Telangana caused flood water in Bhadradri Kothagudem district to enter the opencast in the Singareni area hampering production on Tuesday.

The production of over 10,000 tons of coal in Yellendu mine was hampered and coal production, stopped at the Tekulaapally Koyagudem surface mine. The work of extracting 40,000 cubic meters of soil was also disrupted due to continuous rains across the state.

Telangana Minister Indrakaran Reddy held a review meeting with the district officials at the Collectorate regarding the losses due to heavy rains in the Nirmal district. The officials were asked about the condition of the flooded areas, crop damage and rehabilitation arrangements. The details of the damage in the agriculture, R&B, electricity department, panchayat raj, and revenue departments were discussed. The officials were asked to submit a preliminary report with the details and estimates of the damages.

As there is no respite from the rains, streams and bunds were overflowing while lakes and reservoirs were filled to maximum level. Water was flooding between Utnoor - Adilabad road in the district center which disrupted traffic. Officials would be releasing the water by lifting the gates of the Satnala and Mattadi projects.

Jayashankar Bhupalapalli district also witnessed heavy rains and the flood water reached the roads and low-lying areas. Heavy rains hit the Sangareddy district as well. Along the upper reaches of the River Manjira, the flood flowed into the river due to rains in the catchment areas.
