HYDERABAD: GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi on Saturday clarified that her meeting with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was purely focused on addressing critical issues concerning the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

She emphasised that the meeting, held at the Chief Minister's residence on Saturday, was not driven by political motives but rather aimed at resolving issues related to the GHMC as the Chief Minister held the portfolio of Municipal Administration.

Mayor Vijayalakshmi highlighted several key concerns during the meeting, including the prolonged delay in the formation of GHMC Standing Council committees and the General Body meeting, which could not be convened for five months due to the Model Code of Conduct for Assembly elections. Additionally, she discussed the imperative need to introduce the GHMC budget before the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming Parliamentary elections.

Despite her genuine intentions, Mayor Vijayalakshmi acknowledged that doubts had surfaced about the nature of her meeting. She reiterated that her primary objective was to secure approval for the GHMC budget before the Parliament Election Code. She firmly asserted her non-political stance and expressed her commitment to work as a diligent member of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, under the leadership of KCR.

Expressing concerns over the pending General Body meeting scheduled for August, Mayor Vijayalakshmi revealed the challenges faced by GHMC corporators under the Assembly Election Code, particularly in fund allocation for vital development programs. She urged the Chief Minister to take necessary steps promptly, emphasising the potential delays posed by the looming Parliament Election Code.

Responding positively, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy addressed all concerns raised by the Mayor. He also spoke directly to GHMC Commissioner Ronald Ross over the phone, instructing him to take immediate action on the highlighted issues.
