HYDERABAD: When all of Hyderabad's iconic landmarks are lit up to commemorate 75 years of India's independence, this road in the Nizampet area craves for some serious attention from the authorities. It is full of potholes and lacks street lights, causing commuters to suffer from bumpy rides.

The Society for Public Safety and Good Governance (SSPGG) claimed that this road leading to Gokaraju Rangaraju Institute of Engineering & Technology has no lighting and is riddled with potholes and yet the officials seem unconcerned. Members of SSPGG alleged that they filed multiple complaints on social media but they were all in vain.

Locals have repeatedly expressed their anguish over the condition of the roads and potholes. Residents and social activists also took to Twitter claiming that the Nizampet Municipal Corporation seems unconcerned about the horrible road conditions and potholes in Nizampet.

The founder of the Society for Public Safety and Good Governance told NewsTAP, "The poor road conditions and lack of lighting make it impossible for people to drive through this route at night. This is a problem for many students who often pass through this road to reach their college. Due to the lack of street lights, women who commute by this road at night experience hardships".

He added, "It is much more difficult for women to commute at night due to the lack of street lighting and also for the fact that this location turns into a popular hangout for drunkards after 7 pm." However, road maintenance and installation of street lights is never on the priority list for the municipal authorities or the college management".

Citizens' fundamental requirements include better streets and lighting. "We demand that the municipal commissioner of Nizampet make necessary road repairs, install street lights and provide respite for the locals and students who frequently use this road," a Nizampet resident said.

The Municipal Commissioner of Nizampet is unavailable for comment, as of now, despite constant efforts by NewsTAP to get in touch with him.
