Godavari rises to alarming level at Dhawaleswaram

RAJAHMUNDRY: The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Organization has given the latest update on the inflow to the River Godavari at Dhawaleswaram cotton barrage, saying that the flood flow due to heavy rains in upper reaches has increased with an inflow and outflow of 15.52 lakh cusecs. It is likely to issue the third danger alert by evening.

The Disaster Management department Special CS G. Sai Prasad and Irrigation Department Principal Secretary Shashi Bhushan Kumar are monitoring the situation from the State Emergency Operation Center and deployed 7 NDRF, 5 SDRF teams with four teams in Alluri Sitaramaraju district, three in Ambedkar Konaseema, two in Eluru, one in East Godavari, two in West Godavari district.People of the Godavari basin have been alerted and asked to take precautions in the wake of floods.

On the other hand, the Godavari river has reached 59.40ft at Bhadrachalam with an inflow of 17.50 lakh cusecs. The third warning alert is in force and it is expected that the water level would reach 60ft soon. The officials are working to shift the flood affected people to safe places.

The Cyclone warning center, Visakhapatnam, has issued weather warning for fishermen for the Andhra coast valid for the next four days commencing from 6 am on July 14 to stating that squally weather would prevail with wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph along and off coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. The same condition would prevail for the next four days and fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off coastal Andhra Pradesh during the above period.

It also gave a weather warning for fishermen of Bay of Bengal other than Andhra coast forecasting squally weather with wind speed 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph very likely over northwest and adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal along and off Gangetic West Bengal & Odisha coasts, the central Bay of Bengal from July 14 to July 17. The fishermen are advised not to venture into the above sea areas during the above period.
