HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Traffic police have removed the footpath encroachments at Kamat Hotel and Bank Street lanes in Sultan Bazar as part of "Operation Rope" and booked cases against the violations to reduce the traffic problems.
The Hyderabad traffic police have shared photographs on X handle ( formerly known as Twitter) depicting the ‘before-and-after’ demolitions of footpath encroachments.
Hyderabad Commissioner of Police CV Anand last year (October 3, 2022) addressed the traffic woes in the most happening Hyderabad City. He had held a review with the Hyderabad Traffic police officials and announced a new program called "Operation Rope" (Removal of Objective Parking and Encroachment), which would be implemented with main emphasis on addressing issues related to parking violations and encroachment on footpaths in Hyderabad.
As part of the program, the traffic police would conduct a drive across the city and take steps to demolish the encroachments for a smooth flow of traffic. The Hyderabad CP, on the occasion of the launch of the program, gave directions to the city dwellers that there should be a parking place of 60 percent in multiplexes and malls, 40 percent in commercial buildings, and 30 percent in apartments.
The Hyderabad traffic police have also given strict instructions to the people travelling on the roads to obey the traffic rules and made changes to the fines.
The police have said that a fine of Rs. 200 will be imposed on drivers who cross the stop lines at traffic signals. Additionally, the police have imposed a fine of Rs. 1,000 on motorists who obstruct the free-left way. How much of the free-left rule is being implemented is a different story. Cyberabad is the worst hit on this.
Several cases were also filed against shopkeepers in the last year who encroached upon footpaths, resulting in the traffic woes.
The Sultan Bazar Traffic police took steps at the Kamat and Bank Street lanes on Thursday and carried out demolitions.
