AMARAVATI: TDP Chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday came down heavily on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy for failing to handle the flood situation effectively. The opposition leader was on a visit to the flood-ravaged areas of West Godavari district.

"The flood has destroyed the lives of people. The Chief Minister is flying in the air doing aerial surveys while people are suffering on the ground with water all around. The State Government failed in providing aid to the flood-hit people. They sent one boat to rescue 1,571 people. They gave four onions and four chillies. Is this even called a government? After receiving the news that I was going to visit, they decided to distribute Rs 2,000 per family. Now, the vegetable plantations are destroyed. The Telangana Government is giving Rs 10,000 to the flood-victims and this Government is only giving Rs 2,000. This is not proper planning," said the Telugu Desam Party Chief.

He visited various villages of the Achanta mandal on Thursday.

He said that if the TDP won the elections in Ayodhya Lanka area of the district, they would establish water treatment plants and provide drinking water, build bridges and do other development works. Naidu demanded that the flood-affected people be paid Rs 50,000 as compensation.
