HYDERABAD: Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy formally tendered his resignation to the position of Munugode MLA here on Monday. He met Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivasa Reddy and submitted his resignation letter which was prepared in the prescribed format.

But the twist came when the Speaker accepted his resignation within a span of 10 minutes. The swiftness with which Rajgopal Reddy's resignation was accepted made it clear that the TRS government was keen and fully prepared to face the by-election in Munugode. With the latest development, the decks are almost cleared for the conduct of the by-poll in Munugode. Now it is left for the Election Commission of India to take a call on the matter.

Rajgopal Reddy announced his decision last week to quit the Congress party and his legislator position. He had also revealed his intention to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 21. Prior to announcing his decision, he also met Union Home Minister and BJP big gun Amit Shah on August 5 and reportedly discussed his political future in the saffron party.

It is believed that he would be formally assuming the BJP colours at a public meeting to be addressed by Amit Sah in Hyderabad on August 21.
