Sania Mirza ended marriage with Shoaib Malik a few months ago; wishes him best on new wedding

HYDERABAD: Following Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik's announcement of his second marriage, Sania Mirza's father, Imran Mirza, disclosed that Sania had initiated a divorce through 'khula,' an Islamic legal method empowering women to independently end a marriage.

Adding to the disclosure, Imran Mirza confirmed that the couple had been divorced for a few months. He earnestly appealed to fans and well-wishers, urging them to respect Sania Mirza's privacy during this sensitive period in her life.

In an official statement by Sania's family said, "Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eye. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now. She wishes Shoaib well for his new journey ahead. At this sensitive period of her life, we would like to request all fans and well- wishers to refrain from indulging in any speculation and to respect her need for privacy."
