Srisailam gates lifted, 80,000 cusecs of water released

AMARAVATI: The Srisailam reservoir was filled to its maximum level due to the rains in the two Telugu states. As a result, three gates of the project dam were lifted and 80,000 cusecs of water released downstream.

The gates of the Srisailam dam were lifted in the presence of AP Water Resources Minister Ambati Rambabu, Nandyal MP Pocha Brahmananda, Srisailam MLA Shilpa Chakrapani Reddy and Nandyal District Collector Manazir Jilani.

The minister performed a special pooja to river Krishna before lifting gates 6, 7, and 8 before releasing 27,000 cusecs of water downstream.

The reservoir is receiving about 1,11,970 cusecs of inflows out of which 57,751 cusecs are being released downwards. The full water level of the project is 885 feet and the current water level is 882.50 feet. The project capacity is 215.807 TMC whereas the current water storage is 202.04 TMC.

Meanwhile, with water being released downstream, the right and left bank hydropower stations intensified power generation. Tourists are also flocking to the project in droves to catch a glimpse of water's majestic downfall from the dam's gate, which is always a sight to behold.
